in Addingham : Celebration Weekend
Our project will lead up to a weekend of celebration, 13/14
September 2008
The whole village will be involved in this celebration, deepening our
knowledge and appreciation of the Saxon period in the development of our
village life since that time.
On Saturday 13th
September free all-age events are
likely to include (details to be confirmed):
- performance of a specially written outdoor play
linking scenes in Addingham's history
- music and minstrelsy
- a "Saxon Feast"
- a mock joust
- falconry
- a project exhibition
On Sunday 14th September
the Bishop of Bradford
will dedicate:
- a fitting carved memorial
panels and stone to mark the burial site of the
re-interred remains of our Saxon ancestors, which were exhumed in the
archaeological digs. The Bishop will lead a special service and bless
the site of the reburial of the Saxon bones.
- the new information boards, which will tell people of their
history and the history of the site and community.
