Invitation for the start of Lent

Lent discussion groups

Every year, Christians use the time of Lent (the 6 weeks before Easter) as a time to concentrate on looking at identifying and acting on the things that need puting right in our lives and in our relationships with each other and with God, and in learning more about the help He offers us and His purpose for us. To help with this, there is a special emphasis on study and discussion, and on the prayerful thinking that this promotes. If you feel that this could be for you, just come along to one of the meetings and give it a try.

A meeting of friends from all the Addingham churches to study and reflect on The Lord's Prayer, including recorded thoughts from David Hope,  Margaret Sentamu, Kenneth Stevenson, David Wilkinson and Elaine Storkey. Each session is repeated in 3 different venues and at 3 different times, so you can go to whichever suits you best each week.

Thursday evenings, 7.30, at Springfield Manse, 86 Bolton Road : February 7th, 14th,  21st,  28th,  March 6th

Tuesday afternoons, 2.30, at St. Peter's church hall : February 12th, 19th,  26th,  March 4th, 11th

Friday mornings, 10.00, at High Trees, 65 Church Street : February 15th, 22nd, 29th, March 7th, 14th

These evenings will be an opportunity to meet new friends and to give yourself time to start thinking about the things that matter in your life. (Thought for Lent)

Palm Sunday is 16th March this year

This day leads us on into Holy Week.

If you are unable to come to some or all of the meetings, don't ignore Lent! Take the opportunity to look at your life and the things that need sorting out in it. Why not make it part of your Lenten resolution to read the Bible at home? You could start by reading the words of Jesus, talking about God and life, as written down in Matthew, chapters 5, 6 an 7. This sermon contains much that is familiar, like the Lord's Prayer and the Beatitudes, and much that is challenging. If we take this teaching of Jesus seriously then we will never be the same again.
