"The world is my parish" : a celebration of the life and work of John Wesley,
with hymns by Charles Wesley
Together with Addingham Methodist Church, and joined by friends from all the Addingham churches, we held a service to celebrate the life and work of John Wesley. We give details here, and if your church would like to make use of this material please feel free to do so.
We traced the life of John Wesley with words spoken by two narrators, and interspersed by extracts from Wesley's own Journal writings - these were read from the pulpit by the Rector, dressed in a simple black cassock and preaching bands.
Each section of Wesley's life story was illuminated by a hymn and/or anthem by his brother Charles, sung either by the choir or by the whole congregation. Tunes were by one of the Wesley family where possible, and other organ music was by Samuel Wesley. There were in addition relevant scripture readings and prayers, including a prayer by John Wesley.
